HELPFUL INFORMATION
How often a chimney needs cleaning depends on how frequently the fireplace is used, the type of fuel being burned and the amount of buildup inside the chimney. Regular inspection is the best way to determine whether chimney sweeping or cleaning is needed.
Visible soot or creosote, unusual odors, poor fireplace performance or simply not knowing when the chimney was last serviced are good reasons to have it inspected. A professional inspection can help determine whether cleaning is appropriate.
Creosote is a combustible residue that can accumulate inside a chimney when wood is burned. Excessive buildup can increase the risk of a chimney fire, which is one reason routine chimney inspection and cleaning are important.
